UH, ASU. CU and BYU must be really bad not to be anywhere on the list.

Jesus are we really behind the likes of UTSA, UNT, and Texas State to the point we aren't even listed?

Given that we have one returning starter on the OL and then a lot of guys that didn't really play much last year. I'm not sure anyone could make an assessment unless they were at the spring workouts. And even those really weren't at full speed. So we won't know this until September.

I don't see how anybody is listed with all the movement that goes on from year to year. If you just go from position to position and count stars (not saying that's what Seele does) that doesn't tell you anything about how a unit is going to gel, as the season progresses.

Just shows the STUPIDITY of lists like this!! We'll have a perfectly decent OL this year and it will be well coached and well prepared. Acting like THIS team is going to have a terrible OL is ridiculous on its face....Good OL transfers like Wiley, White, Secrest and Melton, plus JUCOS Crawford and Hautau and HSers McClain, Bell, and Joiner give us a lot of new faces for OL with a good returning kid in Jenkins..and we have a dominant blocking transfer TE from Mich State.....

No one knows who are starting OL are right now. We return 1 OL and there are still battles in spring. It is more of lack of info than the OL is necessarily bad. We have 3 out of 5 spots up for grabs and Hunter had only limited playing time last year.

No but they probably have enough returning starters to make a guess at how good they are. We don't.

Don't have a clue but with McMickle and the Zeon I feel better about QB than I have the last 5 years. Last few years if the starter was out there weren't a lot of options. There are now.

Based on recent reports of OL, the rumors I hear is that Donovan is working hard on two things: 1) quicker release and 2) run like hell. Only Joke.

So we have an oline with no game time experience playing with each other and a QB that's temporarily out that hasn't been able to play with the receivers .

The WRs part aren't as bad. Johnson has played with Smith. I forget when Manjack went out but Wilson had some playing time with Smith. At TE Brynes has also played with Smith. While we did lose the starters all these guys got significant playing time last year. I could be wrong but wasn't Brynes starting at TE last year? Carr is definitely a starting TE but Barbay in the past has liked to run a lot of 2 TE sets. Since we have loaded up on TE's, it doesn't look like that is changing.

It isn't ideal but far from no one has played with each other. Hunter and Tank Jenkins playing together before under the same OL coach will help. It is one guard position and both OT's that are big question marks right now. Nudkwe and Hobdy-Lee ran with the one's at OT in spring but I think that has a lot to do with having a year under the OL coach. So it is hard to say how it shakes out in the fall. So we have at least 2 WR/TEs with significant playing time with Smith and a C and G who played together at least some last year under the same OL coach.

Thanks for clarifying. I'm keep my expectations to a min for the next couple of seasons. Year 3 should tell us more. Jmo.

Best to do so. Hopefully we are pleasantly surprised. I certainly wasn't expecting Herman's first season.

Like the team overall, it’s really difficult to know how good we’ll be up front. I know that the starters in the spring were guys already on the roster, but I’m thinking we’ll start transfers at both tackle positions. Cedric Melton was a second-team RT at Ole Miss, Dakota White was a competent two-year starter at Louisiana Tech, and Jake Wiley started at OT for Colorado in ‘22. So I am assuming two of those guys will move ahead of Shamar Hobdy-Lee and David Ndukwe. Tank Jenkins and Peyton Dunn are the likely guards with Demetrius Hunter taking over at center. I doubt we’ll field an offensive line that would be among the top three in the conference, but we might have a chance to have a middle-of-the-pack group.

Great discussion. I think we will be pleased when we revisit this in December. I am pushing my chips in on Willie. I will freely admit to having gotten a bad case of Dana fatigue.

Im ALL in for Willie Fritz. I've seen enough off the field. I think he really understands what he has here at UH. He's offering all the best kids in Houston a life changing opportunity. That's all I wanted to see.

Wasn't there a tweet or something like that where it was said Willie spent an hour plus visiting with Steele, going over the team and its prospects for the 2024 season and beyond? If that is correct, I'm thinking Phil and Willie have a good idea of where we sit at the moment.

A number of us are "all in" on Fritz. That's not the problem. The problem is a matter of time. He won't have the majority of "his" players on campus until next year, at the earliest. That means we have to go into battle this fall with a number of Holgorsen folks. That does not bode well. Guess we'll wait and see, and cross our fingers, that Fritz can motivate them, but I'm not throwing my chips in on this year.

Focus for me this year is upgrading the tailgate. Got to get air-cooling elements into the gate this year. Also, look for the return of Ghis BBQ!

In the portal we had 33 of Holgo's guys leave and 27 of Fritz's guys come in. we have 17 new recruits coming in. 44 new guys is a little of half the 85 man roster. So the majority of the roster will be Fritz guys in year 1. Some intentionally were not told to leave others left for other reasons but this is a house cleaning. This isn't when Herman took over and we got a couple of transfers and a class he had a short time to build coming in. The portal has changed everything.

Chances are we lose and gain some more in the fall portal.
